List of Past Students of Saint Columban's Killed in Action

Hyperlinks below should work.

Nominal Roll hyperlinks below will produce a "PDF" file of the named past student.

The hyperlink: Nominal Rolls Australia will take you to the Nominal Rolls on the Department of Veterans' Affairs website.

As far as I am aware there is not yet a Nominal Roll for Afghanistan.

For hyperlinks in the "National Archives" column:

Clicking "Received" should produce a PDF file for you.

Clicking "Digital Copy"  will take you through a series of steps that will allow you to view the file - one page at a time.

The file has been dispatched and a "PDF" copy, which will be easier to read, should be available in a few days.

The "Draft" below has been suggested by the college and I've agreed to it.
Publication for the business Directory appears to have slipped back a little.

Memorial Blazers

This is some background information in relation to the advertisement shown above.

The Vietnam War of the 1960s and 1970s  polarised the Australian community. Ann Rebgetz was the first Principal of Saint Columban's to invite past students who were Vietnam Veterans as guests to the college's Anzac Day Ceremony in 2011.

In appreciation for this, in 2011, 2012, & 2013 we presented the college with framed montages.
There is probably insufficient material readily available to create any more of these.

According to Principal Ann Rebgetz our participation has greatly increased the attendance of Students, in school uniform, at the local Anzac Day Parades in Caboolture and adjacent centres.

STC has 25 Past Students who have been "Killed In Action"

If it wasn't for the sacrifices of those and other Australians our country would have been invaded by the Japanese.

The freedoms we enjoy today would have been non existent.

A fitting way for students to honour our "KIAs" would be the wearing of "Memorial Blazers".

It's not as easy a task as it might seem to assemble the medal entitlement for individual KIAs.

There are some different choices but I thought we might look at standard school blazers with a set of replica medals for wearing on the right hand side of the blazer. Relevant information such as name, service number, medal names, theatres of service etc could be embroidered on the blazers.

Campaign Medals - World War Two 1939-1945

For service during World War II Australian personnel were awarded Imperial campaign medals. The same medals were issued to all Commonwealth personnel, and in addition Commonwealth countries generally issued a unique medal to recognise the service of their own people. In Australia the Australia Service Medal 1939-45 was issued.

The qualifying criteria for the medals are contained in comprehensive policy publications issued by the United Kingdom and in separate Australian publications.

The campaign medals issued for WWII are worn in the position notified by the Governor-General in The Order of Wearing Australian Honours and Awards.
